It is interesting and important to note that science conducted on the ISS has had an impact on all 13 primary disciplines that comprise the journal sets carried by major publishing houses. In addition, within and between these disciplines, knowledge from science conducted on the ISS has reached 277 of a possible 544 sub-disciplines. These findings suggest that despite the fact that the ISS is widely recognized as a technical and engineering accomplishment, its scientific reach is much more interesting and complex than previously thought or understood.
This visualization portrays knowledge flows from 888 unique publications that NASA attributes to science conducted on the International Space Station (ISS). In addition, we created a database of 3,448 records that cite the 888 ISS publications in order to map flows of knowledge from science conducted on the ISS.
